Durante il nostro viaggio alle Isole Azzorre ci sono stati molti momenti speciali e uno di quelli che ci ha emozionate di più è stata sicuramente la piccola jam session organizzata appositamente per me e Linda, perché potessimo conoscere la musica di alcuni giovani artisti locali.

Un freddo pomeriggio di Primavera, una bottiglia di vino rosso, il sassofono di Luís Senra, la voce calda di Sara Cruz e le sonorità fusion degli ON: tutti ingredienti perfetti per tradurre in musica l’essenza stessa delle Isole Azzorre, una sorta di non-luogo sospeso tra Cielo e Mare, tra Vecchio e Nuovo Mondo, dove la saudade trova la sua naturale espressione in molte forme musicali che non sono necessariamente quelle tradizionali del fado.
Sara Cruz ha appena vent’anni ma la sua musica, fortemente influenzata da artisti come Amy Winehouse, Selah Sue e Matt Corby, ha già molto da raccontare: nel suo stile convivono in perfetta armonia folk, soul e un pizzico di blues e la sua voce non può davvero passare inosservata o lasciarvi indifferenti.
Per noi Sara ha cantato accompagnata dal sax di Luís Senra che si è avvicinato alla musica in tenerissima età, iniziando a suonare il clarinetto e il flauto traverso ad appena 11 anni, ed oggi considera il sassofono come un’estensione del suo corpo e il microfono stesso del suo cuore.
Luís dà il meglio di sé con il jazz e la musica sperimentale e insieme agli amici Daniel Tavares e Jorge Valério ha creato ON: tre musicisti (un sax, un hang pan e un cajon) e una musica in bilico tra chill out e lounge che è più che mai esplorazione, improvvisazione e connessione con il pubblico.
L’incontro con l’Arte e la Cultura locale dovrebbe essere sempre parte del Viaggio, perché ci aiuta a comprendere meglio la vera essenza di un Luogo e a farci coinvolgere ed emozionare a 360 gradi; a São Miguel per noi è stato proprio così ed ancora oggi, ogni volta che mi viene un po’ di nostalgia al ricordo del nostro viaggio, c’è la musica degli ON, di Luís e di Sara che mi invita a chiudere gli occhi, a sintonizzare il ritmo delle note con quello del mio cuore e a lasciarmi trasportare di nuovo nel magico Altrove che sono le Isole Azzorre.

During our trip to the Azores Islands we have experienced a lot of special moments: one was the private jam session arranged for us, to know the music of some young local artists.
A cold afternoon, a bottle of red wine, the saxophone of Luís Senra, the mellow voice of Sara Cruz and the fusion sounds of the ON: these were the perfect ingredients to discover the musical essence of the Azores Islands, a Neverland suspended between sky and sea, where the saudade finds expression in many forms of music that are not necessarily the traditional fado.
Sara Cruz is very young: she’s only 20 years old but her music, strongly influenced by artists like Amy Winehouse, Selah Sue and Matt Corby, has much to say. In her style co-existing folk, soul, or even a little of blues and her voice doesn’t, in any way, go unnoticed.
Sara sang for us with the accompany of Luís Senra, that learnt the clarinet and flute at age 11 and now considers the saxophone like an extension of his body or the microphone of his heart.
Luís shows his worth with jazz and experimental music and with his friends Daniel Tavares and Jorge Valério he created the ON: three musicians (a sax, a hang pan and a cajon) and a project where the music is on the edge between chill out and lounge, and the main focus is the creative freedom, the musical exploration and the direct connection with the public.
When I’m traveling, I like meet every time the Art and the Culture of the locals, to capture the true essence of a place and let me fully involved, and so it was also in São Miguel.
So today, when I feel a little bit of nostalgia for our travel, I close my eyes listening the music of ON, Luís and Sara, I harmonize the rhythm with that of my heart and I’m going back to my magical Islands.
